A couple days late posting this, but the reviews are in! Every Thursday, I sit down and try out 3 beers that I have never had before. What follows is a quick rundown of each one, and what I thought of them. Just quick thoughts. Let’s check out the 3 for this week!
8-Bit Pale Ale | Tallgrass Brewing Company
American Pale Ale | 5.2% ABV, 46 IBU
The video gamer in me could not pass up on a can that referenced 8-Bit and had Pac-Man on it! Plus I like IPA’s a lot, so I had to grab this one.
According To UnTappd:
“8-Bit Pale Ale pays homage to the classic, yet complex video game systems that weren’t perfect but still sparked our imaginations. Notes of fruit and pine resin dominate the aroma with bright hops and vibrant tropical fruit flavors shining through in this medium-bodied American pale ale.”
I most certainly tasted the fruit flavors in this IPA more than anything. A very citrus taste in my opinion. I really really enjoyed this beer and could see myself buying it again very soon! I gave this one a full 5 stars on UnTappd!
Melt My Brain | Shorts Brewing Company
Golden Ale | 3.8% ABV, 18 IBU
I’ve always liked most of the beers I try from Short’s, and after seeing yet another bottle referencing Back To The Future, I had to pick this one up. If foe anything else, to add to my BTTF and bottle collections.
According To UnTappd:
“Melt My Brain is an experimental Golden Ale brewed with coriander, juniper berries, limes and blended with Short’s made tonic water to create the tasting experience of drinking a gin and tonic cocktail. Delicate aromas of citrus and pine flow into bold bright flavors of sweet lime with a slightly sticky bitterness. Refreshing and clean, a tasty tonic effervescence provokes the palate for more.”
Lime. All I could taste was Lime. Maybe it’s just my taste buds, or maybe I’m weird (or both lol), but all I could taste was the Lime. No citrus or pine for me. Not that I hate Lime, but I was really hoping for more with this one. I was disappointed. But cool bottle label none the less! I gave this one 3.5 stars on UnTappd.
Blue Magic Lavender Ale | Right Brain Brewery
Cream Ale | 4.5% ABV, N/A IBU
I love lavender. So relaxing. Smells nice. How could this go wrong?
According To UnTappd:
“A light, unobtrusive lavender nose and flavor. A slight hint of cinnamon comes from lavender stems (for you lavender geeks). Our answer to shandy-style beer. This is designed to be a light, easy-drinking porch beer (or lawn mower beer!).”
Unobtrusive? Not quite. The taste was just a bit too much for me. Too strong. While I did enjoy the little cinnamon kick I got in each sip, the lavender taste was way too strong. You know how lavender hand soap smells? Yeah, that’s exactly how this tasted. Like soap. Sort of. Anyways, I do love lavender, and it wasn’t the worst beer I’ve ever had, so I gave this one 4 stars on UnTappd.
