‘3 For Thursday’ Beer Review #1 (08/10/17)

A couple days late posting this, but the reviews are in! Every Thursday, I sit down and try out 3 beers that I have never had before. What follows is a quick rundown of each one, and what I thought of them. Just quick thoughts. Let’s check out the 3 for this week!

Beer Right Meow | HopCat
American IPA | 6.3% ABV, 56 IBU

I was completely unaware that HopCat (a small chain of Beer Pub/Restaurants near where I live) manufactured their own Craft Beers. I love this place and their food, so when I saw this one, I had to try it out!

According to UnTappd:

“Right Meow is always the best time for a beer. This is a more even keeled IPA designed for sustainable day-long crushing. Hopped for a more citrus leaning, resinous flavor with a slightly dank, chronic funk aroma.”

Personally, I really liked it a lot! It left me with a pleasant lemon after taste. Almost tastes like an alcoholic tea. Very tasty! And not too strong of an IPA in terms of ABV. I gave this one 5 Stars on UnTappd!

Bonfire Brown | Saugatuck Brewing Company
American Brown Ale | 5.5% ABV, 20 IBU

This one was very much a random blind grab off of the store shelf. Seriously. Didn’t know what I wanted, so I closed my eyes and picked.

According to UnTappd:

“A robust American Brown Ale with a smoky character. One of the Brewer’s Reserve seasonal offerings.”

Personally, I wasn’t too impressed. It wasn’t bad, but not my favorite Brown Ale either. That title belongs to Best Brown from Bell’s Brewery. Whether that’s because I work there or not, remains to be seen…… 😉   I gave this one 4.5 Stars on UnTappd!

Lost Dune | New Holland Brewing Company
Fruit Beer | 5.5% ABV, 30 IBU

I actually enjoy a good fruit beer, and decided to give this one a try. I don’t mind blueberries!

According to UnTappd:

“A refreshing and aromatic summer ale. Tropical notes of Mosaic hops and bright citrus of coriander complement the rounding smoothness of blueberries from Michigan’s dune-laden west coast.”

Personally, I thought it had a very strong blueberry taste! Not awful per say, just too much for me this time around. Felt it threw the flavor balance off on this beer. But if you love blueberry muffin’s PACKED with blueberries, this fruit beer is for you!

That’s all the beers for this week everyone! If anyone has any questions or comments on these beers, let me know in the comments below! As always……

Cheers & Game On!
