MaltyBlog #5: Malty Monday!, 4/10/23

New comics, and a possible Superman project? It’s Malty Monday!

As has been the usual the last few weeks (and will be the norm for awhile), more comic books have been added to MaltyCollects today. 40 more to be exact, spread over various publishers and titles.

With that out of the way, I’d like to take a minute to talk about a new project I might take on, and it’s a big one. You may even say it’s Super!

Super Reading

As I’ve talked about before, when I was a kid my favorite super hero and comic book character was always Superman. I started reading his titles when I was around 12 years old, so circa 1990. Important to note, that DC was well past the Crisis reboot at this point.

I purchased, collected, and read everything I could get my hands on till about the year 2000. By that point I was 22, and finding time for reading became harder as I was moving on into adult life. Plus, comics were getting expensive and there were just too many to keep up with. So at that point I fell out of comic books.

Flash forward to now… I’ve been heavily back into collecting for a few years, and I’ve been wanting to go back and read all the cool comics and stories I missed. Plus re-read books I read back then, because you know… my memory isn’t what it used to be. Where though, do I start?

Post Crisis

I have decided that 1987 will be my starting point. More specifically, the first Superman related comics to be released after the crisis reboot. That will mean starting with John Byrne’s classic Man of Steel mini series, that relaunched my favorite DC Super Hero!

From there, I plan to read everything released in correct order, one year at a time. It will be quite the undertaking trying to get through 35+ years of comic books. I might not even make it all the way, but I’m sure going to give it a good try!

The big question though is how do I document this? The other part of this project is to share what I’ve read with all of you. I’ll try my best to shorten and summarize a year of Superman into one or 2 short blog posts. Or should I do this in video form? Both? There’s really no limit to be honest.

The take away from this project… I read it all for my own enjoyment, write/record short entertaining summaries, you read/watch them. Something like that. We will see how it goes lol.

See y’all Friday!

Till Next time, be good to each other and Game On!

  1. Crisis and “Who’s Who in the DC Universe” were some of the first non-Transformers/G.I. Joe comics that I remember reading. I even have a Crisis omnibus that I still read once in a great while.

It’s hard to say which would be better for capturing your thoughts on your reading journey. I would say blogging works better to keep for the long run because it is easier to keep saved and takes up less digital space. Video is also fun to do, but I’m less inclined to put myself on camera, so that’s also why I would do blogs instead. But, I don’t think you have those hang ups, so you should go with what you enjoy doing more.

Can’t wait to see what you come up with! 😁

    1. It’s funny, I forgot that I have that Omnibus somewhere, until you mentioned that you have it lol. As for the formatting for the SRP, I will be starting with blogs first, then videos after. I also don’t plan on being on camera for the videos, I’ll just leave that to the live streams lol. Basically though, I will be using the SRP blogs as foundations and scripts for the future video counterparts, if that makes sense? Thanks for the comment brother! 🙂
