‘3 For Thursday’ Beer Review #2 (08/17/17)

A couple days late posting this, but the reviews are in! Every Thursday, I sit down and try out 3 beers that I have never had before. What follows is a quick rundown of each one, and what I thought of them. Just quick thoughts. Let’s check out the 3 for this week!

Titania | Bell’s Brewery
American Pale Wheat Ale | 6.4% ABV, 50 IBU

By now, most (if not all) craft beer lovers, know all about Oberon from Bell’s brewery. It’s a summertime favorite, and Oberon (originally called Solsun) was named after a famous character from a William Shakespeare play.

According to Wikipedia:

“Oberon is a king of the fairies in medieval and Renaissance literature. He is best known as a character in William Shakespeare’s play A Midsummer Night’s Dream, in which he is Consort to Titania, Queen of the Fairies.”

So what better idea, than to create Oberon’s Queen and other half, Titania!

According to UnTappd:

“Oberon that has been dry hopped”

Well that seems a bit too simple, but yes it’s true. It’s also a fact that Titania uses different hops than her King in the base recipe as well. This beer is simply amazing! I gave it a full 5 stars on UnTappd! 🙂

Jaw-Jacker Ale | Arcadia Brewing Company (Arcadia Ales)
Spiced / Herbed Beer | 6% ABV, 19 IBU

It’s that time of year again, for all of the fall seasonal craft beers to start making their way to store shelves, and after looking at the ingredients on this one, I had to try it!

According to UnTappd:

“This spiced amber ale is our celebration of the arrival of Autumn. Brewed with cinnamon, all-spice and nutmeg (a riff on Grandma Davies’ pumpkin pie recipe), and additions of Caramel and Crystal malt for balanced flavor, drinkability and a brilliant orange-amber color, despite the absence of pumpkin in the recipe. A refreshingly spicy, season brew.”

I actually can’t say any more than what was said on UnTappd. It’s spot on! I will say that it very much made me feel like I wanted to cozy up next to a bonfire, in the fall, with a breeze as all the colors of the leaves changed around me. Ahem……basically it reminds me of fall lol. It was amazing! This one also received 5 stars from me on UnTappd! 🙂

Green Zebra | Founders Brewing Company
Sour Gose | 4.6% ABV, 10 IBU

Those who know me personally, know I am not a big fan of sours. However, I will try any beer for the sake of this blog. You’re welcome lol 😉

According to UnTappd:

“Subtly sour and a little sweet, this ale is a refreshing take on a nearly extinct German style, gose. Watermelon is the highlight of this lightly-hopped treat and gives it a hint of satisfying juiciness. The soft mouthfeel and dry finish comes courtesy of the addition of sea salt, a traditional gose ingredient.”

Well it was definitely a little too sour for me. However I did enjoy the watermelon taste which seemed to balance out the beer a bit more. While not something I’d drink again, it wasn’t horrible either. I gave this one 3.75 stars on UnTappd.

That’s all the beers for this week everyone! If anyone has any questions or comments on these beers, let me know in the comments below! As always……

Cheers & Game On!
