Malty Chatter: March 9th, 2024

Sometimes I just want to take some time to talk about a random list of things I have going on or that’s on my mind. Today’s post will cover what I am reading, the comic books that I am collecting, website(s) updates, and most importantly… what will my first YouTube video be about? It’s time for the first ever Malty Chatter!

Hey everybody, welcome to the first installment of Malty Chatter! This will hopefully be a somewhat regular series here on The Malty Gamer website, where I will talk about random things I’d like to get out there onto the web. My hobbies, my projects, and anything else I want to talk about. I feel like I should start with the biggest topic on my mind at the moment: YouTube.

It’s absolutely no secret that I have been thinking about, talking about, and thinking some more about making videos for YouTube for a long time now. I’m not interested in doing it to get subs and likes (though I wouldn’t complain lol), but more so to use it as an outlet to get all of the creativity I have locked into my nerdy brain out of my system.

I think I am going to start with something that should be fairly simple. Create videos about all of the things I have collected that are sitting on all of my shelves. Comic books, toys, video games, etc. Something I am calling…

Of course that title and design is definitely subject to change, and is a work in progress. The idea really came to me just the other day while talking to a fellow Superman comic book collector in a Facebook group, who had shown a huge interest in how my shelves were set up for my comic books. I mentioned that I could make a video about it, and it just went from there. The ideas started to flow!

Speaking of comic books…

I have 2 huge goals for this year in terms of comic books. Getting my physical collection to 2,500 by the end of the year, and reading as many books as possible! Let’s start with the physical collection.

Youngblood #1 from April 1992 was my 2,000th book added to my collection! Costing me a whopping 25 cents at my LCS a couple weeks ago, it’s actually a pretty valuable and important book to have in my collection. It was actually the very first book published by the then new company, Image Comics. It predates Spawn #1 by one month!

Now that I have hit 2,000 books, and have another 200 or so to still catalog, I am rethinking that goal of 2,500 by years end. It’s only March, and I still have ComicCon in May. I think 3,000 may be a more realistic goal.

Let’s talk about the reading goal now. I didn’t exactly have a total number for the year in mind, however I was going to attempt 5 books a day. I completely failed that for January and February. I am however on a good trek to hit that target for March and hopefully finish the month out at 155 (minimum) books.

I am still going strong with the Superman Reading Project (another topic for future YouTube videos), and have also been enjoying the current She-Hulk and W0rldtr33 books. I have updated and linked to my current reading log and stats under the Comic Books section of this website. Feel free to check it out!

This is probably a good segue to…

There have been some changes and tweaks to this very website!

  • The Comic Books section still has the good old Back To The Future collector’s guide, but now also includes a link to my complete comic book collection over at the league of comic geeks, as well as a link to my complete 2024 reading log and stats (also at the league).
  • The Platinum Trophy Case section is also slowly getting a complete redo. I have now completely updated all of my platinum trophy lists for 2023 and the 3 I have earned here in 2024. 2008 – 2022 will follow… slowly… but will follow.
  • The Game Collection section hasn’t been touched yet, but I have plans to convert that page to a full Malty Collects section. It will basically link you to that website.

Oh yeah, Malty Collects! I promise it’s not dead. It’s just that there is only so much time I can devote to so many different things. It hasn’t seen an actual update since November of last year, but there will be one coming soon. I have a few hundred comics and toys to add to the site, and some tweaking of the layout. As always, you can still check out that website by going to maltycollects.com.

I think I covered everything I wanted to in this post. Again these Malty Chatter posts will just be complete randomness, and I will use the platform to get my thoughts onto paper if you will. After all, isn’t that what blogging has always meant to be for?

Sticking with tradition (MvM style), this blog will end with a music video. I am currently obsessed with all things Dua Lipa (which causes my daughter to tease me relentlessly lol), so that’s what you get. A Dua Lipa video ;).

Stay awesome, stay nerdy, and always stay true to yourself! Until next time friends.

  1. Great to hear about your comic collecting and reading goals!

Now that I’m collecting GI Joe and Transformers comics again, I’ve been wanting to re-read through my collections as well and also get caught up on some stories I missed when I stopped collecting before. 😁
